Just for Fun
Occasionally, I get a notion to do something a bit different just for fun.
Sad Eyes
I made a few caricatures from a scrap plank. This one had sad eyes.
Best Bud
This fellow looks like he might be somebody's best bud.
Charlie, Muskrat Hunter.
Inspired by a photograph in a magazine that featured a muskrat hunter, I created "Charlie" sitting on a bench smoking his cigarette. Charlie now resides in a special place at Grinders Switch Winery near Centerville, TN.
Point of View
Two faces outlined on swivels so that they can face each other or turn away to express a variety of emotions.
True Love
A woman holds her precious dog's head.
Soaring Eagle
An eagle soars about the image of a Native American as a deer stands below.
Mother's Love
For my mother, I created a carving of her holding me as a baby.
Mr. Scates
While vacationing at my parents' house several years ago, I worked on a rotten piece of walnut. I was working from a photo of a laborer in Nebraska. My Dad saw me working and said, "That's Mr. Scates." After we moved back to Tennessee, I met Mr. Scates' son. The resemblance, by accident, was uncanny. I gave him the carving.
Preacher
Did you ever notice that preachers seem to have a lock on particular hairstyles--lots of hair spray?
Eyes of Youth
This young man's image was carved into red cedar.
Coyote Ledge
Two coyotes "sing" on a rocky ledge.
